Anti projectile Fondmetalli mesh

In February 2011 the installation of slag pit wire mesh protection has been completed at Lucchini steel factory in Piombino.
The product based on metal wire mesh has been studied and developed by Fondmetalli research center with CAE simulation, structural calculation and validation test.
To guarantee the safe of the Lucchini slag pit 3600 square mesh of wire mesh net have been installed. The net is made with a special material suitable to maintain the performance for a long time under severe atmospheric conditions.
The system is able to stop and keep the projections caused by the explosion and the deflagration of slag pieces. Thanks to the action of the wire net the external perimeter and walls and roof of the building are protected.
